Alternative Tourism…
Alternative tourism is a source of wealth and a means for promoting mutual understanding between different peoples. Nevertheless, its uncontrolled expansion can cause serious social, human and environmental upheaval.
Mass tourism leads to more damage than it has positive impact !
My Namib Africa offers a form of tourism that is moderate and of exceptional quality.
The four main forms of alternative tourism are : Ecotourism, Fair tourism, Responsible tourism and Solidarity tourism that can be defined as follows :
Ecotourism :
A responsible form of travel from an ecological point of view; visits to relatively untouched natural settings to appreciate nature and culture, past or present.
Encourages conservationism and has minimal negative impact whilst relying on the active participation of the local people in order to generate benefits for them.
Fair Tourism :
The origins of fair tourism are closely linked to the form of commerce with the same name. It plays great emphasis on fair compensation for local players and on the purchase of ecological products.
Establishes a direct and balanced partnership with local communities, who are paid fairly and who benefit directly when tours are well organised.
Responsible Tourism :
Is based on and, places great emphasis on cultural and social encounters in addition to an understanding of local reality.
Solidarity Tourism :
Places human beings and encounters at the centre of a voyage. Travellers can discover the reality of a country through a direct and healthy contact with the native peoples. Supportive tourism is based on respect for people, cultures and nature.
On all of our safaris, we at My Namib Africa guide travellers in their tourist activities so that both the country and the local people may profit from their presence. We may however, refuse to acquiesce to demands that conflict with our values and our respect for a country and that go against the values upheld by alternative tourism.
