Political Situation & Safety


Namibia is a parliamentary republic. The president of the Republic is appointed by general election for a mandate of five years (renewable once only).
The current president, elected in November 2004, is Mr. Hifikepunye Pohamba.

Safety measures in Namibia are the same as in Europe. Leaving valuables in an unguarded vehicle is not advisable. In towns, certified guards can be hired for a modest sum to keep watch over your vehicle.
