Okavango Delta
On account of its length (1300 km) the Okavango River is the third most important watercourse in southern Africa. It has its source in Angola and crosses Namibia before it finally reaches Botswana. The waters of the Okavango are remarkable in that they do not flow into the ocean. The river turns into a vast delta that vanishes, swallowed up by the Kalahari Desert.
It is best to plan Delta crossings between May and October.
Immigration formalities are handled by customs on entry. Malaria medication is recommended when travelling to this area.
