History
Land of the San and Nam before the Herero and the Owambo tribes, then called German South West Africa, Namibia was a German colony until the 1st World War. Renamed “South West Africa”, the territory was under the mandate of South Africa, before gaining independence in 1990.

| 1989 | The SWAPO wins the first multi-party general election ever to be held |
| 1990 | Namibia proclaimed independent on March 21st. Mr. Sam Nujoma sworn in as the first president |
| 2000 | Agricultural land repurchased by the government and redistributed to the local population |
| 2005 | Mr. Sam Nujoma hands power over to his successor Mr. Hifikepunye Pohamba |
